An SNMMI-designated Comprehensive Center of Excellence are sites that are leading the growth in field. The centers will have experience administering multiple radiopharmaceutical therapies and established care teams in specific disease areas. A comprehensive site should be actively engaged in RPT research. Sites meeting the criteria will receive a certificate and door/window stickers with the designation. Sites will be listed on SNMMI's Therapy Portal and accessible to patients seeking radiopharmaceutical therapies. Site Requirements

Comprehensive Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Centers of Excellence will: 

  • Administer multiple RPTs and have a minimum of 20 Lu-PSMA and 20 Lu-Dotatate administrations per year, and
  • Have total 40 RPT administrations for least two disease-specific therapy areas (thyroid, neuroendocrine tumor, and prostate)  
  • Pediatric centers must have 20 or more administrations over 3 years and administer I-131 MIBG therapy.
  • Have PET/CT and SPECT/CT cameras on site 
  • Have in-patient therapy rooms or areas with appropriate shielding/distancing  
  • Staff (authorized users, molecular imaging specialists, and technologists) must participate in quality improvement (Part IV MOC) projects and continuing medical education courses relevant to RPT (5 hours annually) 
  • Provide at least one patient education lecture per year  
  • The site must publish one RPT article (retrospective or prospective) every two years 
  • Engage in one active RPT clinical trial per year
  • Have the capability to perform dosimetry
  • AU and MI specialists are encouraged to attend a NCI Cooperative Group Meeting annually
  • An application fee of $1,500 member/$2,500 non-member will apply, designation is for 2 years

Care Team Requirements

Comprehensive Centers of Excellence will staff a care team consisting of: 

  • Must have two ABNM and/or ABR-N, authorized users. Canadian centers must have two FRCPC NM certified physicians.   
    • Please include a copy of the Lead Physician's CV with your application
  • An ABNM, ABR-DR or NR-CAQ certified physician to interpret molecular imaging studies
  • A CNMT, ARRT(N), or MRT(N) certified nuclear medicine technologist
  • A radiation safety officer
  • Medical staff (nurse, physician, PA/NP, or equivalent) to handle referrals, consultation, and medical complications
  • medical physicist
  • patient navigator, preferably a nurse (or equivalent)
  • Radiochemist/radiopharmacist (optional)
