2024 Mars Shot Grants

2024 Mars Shot Grants

The SNMMI Mars Shot Research Fund (MSRF) was created to provide resources that translate visionary nuclear medicine imaging, radiopharmaceutical therapy, and data science research into tools or treatments that help to improve the lives of patients. The basis of the fund is the Mars Shot for Nuclear Medicine, Molecular Imaging, and Molecularly Targeted Radiopharmaceutical Therapy publication.

For 2024, three $100,000 grants will be awarded for research into diagnostic pathways in prostate cancer, community-based theranostics, and innovative research in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.

Please see below for details on each of the grants offered for 2024.

Diagnostic Pathways in Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is increasingly being managed by more patient-individualized treatments to limit under and over treatment. This funding opportunity seeks proposals focusing on early diagnosis and diagnostic management pathways in prostate cancer using nuclear medicine methods.

We are pleased to announce the opening of a Mars Shot for Nuclear Medicine application for a one-year, $100,000 grant.  Priority will be given to applications that address PSMA-PET imaging earlier in the patient journey to detect prostate cancer disease to facilitate early and accurate noninvasive diagnosis to optimize treatment for better patient outcomes.

We appreciate the generous support from Telix Pharmaceuticals to the SNMMI Mars Shot Research Fund.

The grant portal for this application is now closed.

Community-Based Theranostics

We are pleased to announce the opening of a Mars Shot for Nuclear Medicine application for a one-year, $100,000 (with no overhead contribution) investigator-originated grant.

Targeted radiopharmaceutical therapies offer hope to many patients with cancer with many further advancements expected in the next years. Most cancer patients are treated in the community, not at academic centers. The research proposed for funding must focus on the implementation science issues involved in translating these advancements from academic medical centers into community-based practices. This funding opportunity is open to qualified non-profit organizations.

The MARS shot fund acknowledges the generous donation from Oliver Buck, Udo J. Vetter, and the ITM corporation to the SNMMI Mars Shot Research Fund in partial support of this award.

Innovator’s Grant

We are pleased to announce the opening of a Mars Shot for Nuclear Medicine application for a one-year, $100,000 innovator’s grant (total) including a maximum of 10% overhead.

The SNMMI Mars Shot Research Fund (MSRF) was created to provide resources that translate visionary nuclear medicine imaging, radiopharmaceutical therapy, and data science research into tools or treatments that help to improve the lives of patients. Applications responsive to this proposal will focus on highly innovative projects with transformational potential. Applications will be accepted from non-profit institutions.

We appreciate the generous support from many donors to the MSRF which allows us to offer this funding opportunity to advance molecular imaging and therapies.
